Brits Could Be Discover Short By Cover

22 December, 2008

According to a new report from Axa has discovered that some Britons could find themselves short of cover or left with an invalidated policy should they need to make a claim with their home insurance provider.

The insurer has indicated that throughout the country, various Britons are in possession of policies which would not cope with the total cost of repair or replacement of possessions in their home should they be burglarised, hit by storms or some other unpredicted happening.

Even though homeowners in Britain think that the contents of their property is worth some 38,000 pounds, the average cover occupied on such items would only protect 29,000 pounds worth of goods, potentially leaving people to pay the extra price of replacement or repair using savings or loans.

Turning away from seeking full cover could leave people under pressure of inadequate finances, something which may be particularly concerning at this time of economic difficulty.

Meanwhile, residents in the north-east were discovered to have 36,000 worth of cover on average, meaning that people here find they are overloaded with less of a monetary pressure should their property be damaged or stolen.

Those who are caught short of cover may wish to apply for personal loans to replace or repair items quickly. Such type of loan may be particularly helpful if people find their lounge is targeted by burglars or subject to some other natural mishap.

According to Nick Kidd, head of household insurance at Axa, “It may seem a good idea to several people particularly in today’s climate to select personal loans option when it comes to home insurance and save a few pounds, but 20,000 pounds or even 30,000 pounds worth of insurance is unlikely to cover all the contents in your home. This would help borrowers to meet their all spending commitments effectively.

“It’s quite easy to under-value your possessions. When seeking home contents insurance, it’s really important to have a clear idea of what your possessions cost: under-insuring could lead to your policy being invalidated. It is suggested that people to sustain receipts of all major possessions and take pictures of their most precious items.”
